Is WikiLeaks Being Played By Russians? Evidence Mounting Against Russia For Feeding Emails To Organization

Lately, WikiLeaks has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. The evidence against Russia is mounting for supplying emails to WikiLeaks. The organization, which not so long ago stood against imperialism, has now been reduced to a Russian puppet.

WikiLeaks came to the limelight back in 2010 when it released more than a quarter of a million classified cables from U.S. embassies around the world. WikiLeaks was highly appreciated for its transparency. Now, in 2016, the Twitter feed of WikiLeaks looks like a mouthpiece of the opposition party.

Robert Mackey of the Intercept said, “The WikiLeaks Twitter feed has started to look more like the stream of an opposition research firm working mainly to undermine Hillary Clinton than the updates of a non-partisan platform for whistleblowers.”

On Thursday, WikiLeaks dumped yet another 2,000 emails from the Hillary Clinton campaign.

John Podesta, Clinton’s campaign manager whose emails are being published by WikiLeaks, said, “It is now clear that the illegal hack of my personal email account was — just like the other recent, election-related hacks — the work of the Russian government.”

WikiLeaks recent spate of leaks is perceived as personal agenda by some, as Clinton was the secretary of state in 2010. WikiLeaks had released the diplomatic cables in 2010.

Russia’s association with WikiLeaks has not been a pleasant one either. Israel Shamir was exposed by WikiLeaks as a Holocaust denier and an anti-Semite. A website, Israelshamir.com, carried several anti-Clinton articles.

Sarah Harrison, a WikiLeaks editor, said it would publish documents damaging to Trump if it had them.

“It’s not that we’re choosing publications to pick a certain line,” she said, as reported by Bloomberg.

Alina Polyakova, the deputy director of the Eurasia Center at the Atlantic Council think-tank in Washington, said, “I think the Russian government is, in fact, using WikiLeaks: the connection seems pretty clear to me. Is the Trump campaign tied to WikiLeaks? That’s hard to say but I would be surprised if there’s no coordination.”

The U.S. agencies have claimed Russia is using WikiLeaks to deliver stolen information to the general public. The level of involvement by Russia is not yet determined, but U.S. agencies remain confident that Russia is behind the recent email leaks of Hillary Clinton.

As reported by CNN, an official said, “The methods of the disclosures suggest Moscow is at least providing the information or is possibly directly responsible for the leaks.”

Russian officials and Putin both have denied the allegations. Putin has termed the allegations as “hysteria.” According to the Russian official, Russia’s involvement in the United States internal matter was ridiculous. In spite of Russia’s denial, the director of National Intelligence leveled unambiguous charges against Russia on Friday.

“The kinds of disclosures that we’ve seen, including at WikiLeaks, of stolen e-mails from people who play an important role in our political process, is consistent with Russian- directed efforts,” White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said on Wednesday.

Trump’s foreign policies are believed to be beneficial to Russia. Trump’s views about NATO, Syria, and Ukraine all are in favor of Russia. Trump’s refusal to release tax returns further fuels the speculations about his business relations with Russia. So, Russia trying to undermine Clinton’s campaign seems possible to US agencies.

Julian Assange is currently holed up at Ecuadorian Embassy in London after claiming asylum. According to a former colleague of the WikiLeaks founder, Assange is helping Trump in hopes that he would be lenient on him in the future. It appears that WikiLeaks has ceased to remain neutral.

Vaughan Smith, a journalist who had allowed the WikiLeaks founder to stay at his U.K. home, it was not possible that WikiLeaks and Russia will work together to impact U.S. elections.

He further added, “His (Julian Assange) whole thing is that he’s not supposed to know the identity of his sources, who leave material anonymously to protect themselves. As for Clinton and Trump? He hasn’t expressed a preference to me.”

With the race to the White House reaching its final month, let us hope WikiLeaks restores its own fame by being neutral and providing some relevant information about both Clinton and Trump’s campaigns for the greater good of the people.
