A controlled explosion has been carried out at Baker Street Tube station after reports of a suspicious vehicle tonight.

Police arrived on the scene at around 9pm and cordoned off the area.

All passengers were evacuated at rush hour with commuters spotted spilling out into the street.

The car in question was spotted abandoned near traffic lights with its bonnet and doors wide open.

The alarm was raised when the vehicle was seen with its hazard lights flashing.

A Met Police spokesman told Metro.co.uk that officers carried out a controlled explosion to gain access to the car.

The station was re-opened at 10.36pm and the incident has been stood down, the spokesman added.
