Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan have agreed on regulation of the situation on the border between the two countries following an escalation in the frontier dispute, the Kyrgyz State Border Service said Saturday.

BISHKEK (Sputnik) – Last week, tensions escalated after around 40 Uzbek troops and armored vehicles were deployed to a disputed segment of the border and laid down a roadblock at another highway section. Kyrgyzstan responded by reinforcing border security.

"Following yesterday’s talks of border agencies of two countries it was possible to regulate the situation. Uzbekistan has pulled back its military equipment and troops from the disputed region of the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border," a spokeswoman of the Kyrgyz State Border Service told RIA Novosti.

There are currently about 50 disputed sections on the 1,300-kilometer (800-mile) border between the two Central Asian countries, with 354 kilometers of the border yet to be delimitated.
