Croatia could face punishment from Uefa after a swastika pattern was seen on the pitch during their Euro 2016 group H qualifier against Italy in Split, which ended 1-1.

It was unclear whether the symbol was mowed into the pitch or painted on the grass, but it was visible in the half Italy were attacking in the first 45 minutes. Groundsmen attempted to cover it at half-time but to little avail.

The match was played behind closed doors as punishment for racist chanting and other misconduct by Croatia fans during last month’s qualifier against Norway. The November qualifier at the San Siro between Italy and Croatia was temporarily halted by crowd trouble.
