Purchases of intermediate and other merchandise surged by 9.5%, boosted by processed industrial supplies n.e.s (15.9%), parts for transport equipment (9.8%), fuels and lubricants (4.4%), and other parts for capital goods (1.9%). Also, imports of consumption goods grew 2.8% to AUD 12.02 billion, supported by consumption goods n.e.s (9.1%), food and beverages, mainly for consumption (5.7%), and textiles, clothing and footwear (2.4%).
